I am currently employed with the Ak-Chin Fire Department where I have worked as a Firefighter/EMT for the past 16 years. I was promoted to Fire Captain after working for 10 years as an Engineer . I enjoy my career in the fire service because I am able to help so many people daily and it is always a new challenge with the various calls we encounter. Being in the Fire Service has taught me how to be a leader, how to solve problems, be resourceful, to think quickly on my feet, to be compassionate and how to work in any situation with people from different backgrounds or beliefs. I am passionate about my job and the community I serve, I am a member of the Ak-Chin tribe so many of the citizens we encounter are people I know. I feel many find it comforting to see a familiar face during emergencies but I also carry the burden of hurt and loss from knowing our patients on a more personal level. I have encountered dangerous situations that have given me valuable experience and skills that I am able to utilize in other areas of my life and pass down to those that follow in my footsteps. I have been able to create great programs for the youth in my community such as the Ak-Chin Cadet program for high school-aged youth and the Preschool Fire Education program. I will always be a servant for my tribe and I look forward to any opportunity that comes in the future that will help benefit my family and my community.
